How We Began

Our Founders

Gracie, Ainsley, and Sienna Woo started Bags of Joy in 2017. As children, they would make beautiful drawings for their aunt Ellie and uncle Joey. Over time, they saw how much their drawings meant to them and how these drawings kept them connected through time and distance. Knowing that cheerful drawings put smiles on people's faces and warmth in their hearts, and learning that many seniors in their community were suffering from isolation, loneliness, and depression, the sisters wanted to do anything they could to help. The girls were inspired by the work of their local TLC Meals On Wheels and thought that drawing on their lunch bags could send a smile directly to those who needed it most! With this idea, they worked to partner with Meals on Wheels! Fast forward to 2022, this small project that started with 3 sisters has touched the hearts of many. We have partnered with sports teams, schools, and Girl Scout troops to educate the public about the issue of senior loneliness and isolation, and we continue to work to help combat it through beautiful artwork!

We have decorated over 8,000 bags so far, and we hope to continue expanding the reach of our organization.
